Volvo confirms EX90 SUV & ES90 Sedan for India by Q3 2026 coming with SPA2 Paltform, 800V Charging, ₹1 – ₹1.5 crore expected pricing, & flagship EV technology.
Volvo is accelerating its electric push in India with the confirmation of two flagship 90 Series EVs for launch by Q3 2026. The luxury carmaker will introduce the Volvo EX90 SUV and Volvo ES90 sedan, both built on the new SPA2 architecture with an 800V electrical system that two with significantly faster charging, advanced software, premium safety technologies, and long driving range.
The announcement comes as electric vehicles now contribute nearly 25 percent of Volvo India’s total sales or one in every four cars sold by the brand. Volvo Car India Managing Director Jyoti Malhotra also confirms the company’s commitment to launching at least one New EV every year, but will also continuing mild hybrid models as it progresses towards its long term all electric mobility vision.
Volvo’s New Flagship EV Lineup
Well, the upcoming Volvo EX90 and Volvo ES90 will become the most premium electric models in Volvo India’s portfolio. And the Volvo EX90 will take the role of the brand’s flagship three-row luxury SUV while the Volvo ES90 will arrive as a new-generation luxury electric sedan replacing the S90. Both models likely to be introduced as completely Built Units and will sit above the EX30 and EC40 in Volvo’s expanding EV lineup.
New SPA2 Platform & 800V Technology
Both flagship EVs supported by Volvo’s latest SPA2 dedicated electric vehicle platform which brings a major leap over the company’s existing EV range. And the new 800V electrical system improves charging efficiency, reduces heat generation, and supports much faster DC charging. This also allows lighter electrical components and better overall performance that make these Volvo’s most advanced electric vehicles of till now.
Battery, Range, & Charging Performance
The Volvo EX90 is likely to use a 111kWh battery pack with global single-motor RWD & dual motor AWD options producing up to 510hp and claim driving range of upto 600km under the WLTP cycle. And the Volvo ES90 likely to have 92kWh and 106kWh battery options with power outputs ranging from 333hp to 680hp and a maximum WLTP range of upto 700km.
Then comes the cherry on top features, the new 800V platform which helps Volvo EX90 to recover nearly 250km of range in 10 minutes and helps Volvo ES90 to add about 300km in the same time and also recharge this model from 10% to 80% in around 22 minutes.
Premium Cabin, Smart Tech, & Safety
Coming to cabin comfort, the both flagship EVs comes with Volvo’s latest Scandinavian Cabin, premium sustainable materials, a minimalist dashboard, and generous interior space. In addition you will see the EX90 offering practical three-row, seven-seat layout, while the ES90 focuses on rear-seat luxury with a longer wheelbase, panoramic glass roof, multi-zone climate control, and large hatchback-style boot for added practicality.
When you look at tech features then you will see 14.5-inch touchscreen, 9-inch digital driver display, and Volvo’s Superset software platform power by dual NVIDIA Drive AGX Orin processors. Google Built-in, Google Maps, Google Assistant, Google Play, wireless Apple CarPlay, digital key, connected services, and over-the-air software updates keep both models future-ready.
And then comes the comfort and safety which are key strengths with adaptive air suspension expected on higher variants for smoother ride and sharper handling. Both EVs feature Pilot Assist, adaptive cruise control, 360-degree camera, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assist, and driver monitoring while the EX90 also gets a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor capable of detecting objects upto 250 metres ahead. These safety features make it more stand out then upcoming Tata Tigor EV Facelift, Kia Syros EV, etc. upcoming EV in India.
India Launch Plans & Availability
Volvo Car India officially confirm that the EX90 and ES90 will join its Indian lineup by Q3 2026. Managing Director Jyoti Malhotra announced the launch timeline with both flagship EVs likely to arrive as Completely Built Units (CBUs). Well, the Volvo has not announce any official launch date, bookings, and delivery updates.
Expected Prices & EV Rivals
Well, this already known to everyone that the Volvo expected to rank their both 90 Series EVs at the top of its India lineup. On basis of this and all sources claims, the Volvo EX90 flagship SUV likely to priced between ₹1.20 to ₹1.50 crore (ex-showroom) and Volvo ES90 luxury sedan may cost around ₹1 to ₹1.20 crore (ex-showroom). Due to luxury features and high pricing, these models likely to compete with BMW iX, BMW i5, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, Mercedes-Benz EQE, Kia EV9, Porsche Taycan, and the upcoming Audi A6 e-tron.
Looking at all the reports, the Volvo’s decision to bring the EX90 & ES90 to India is less about chasing volumes and more about establishing technological leadership in the luxury EV space. So, if the company gets pricing, ownership experience, and charging support right, these two flagship models may strengthen Volvo’s premium positioning and also open the gate for its next phase of electric mobility in India.
