After delaying a year, BYD Song L GT set to make comeback in 2026 with 390 kW AWD Power, 9 Min Flash Charging, DiPilot 5.0, & DiSus-C suspension that too in 250,000 RMB (₹29.8 lakh).

BYD Song L GT Electric Fastback Crossover finally back in the spotlight after a year-long wait. First reveal through China’s MIIT regulatory filings in July 2025, the performance-focused model is now spotted testing without camouflage ahead of its expected mid-to-late 2026 launch. BYD reportedly delayed production to integrate Blade Battery 2.0, ultra-fast Flash Charging, DiPilot 5.0, LiDAR, and DiSus-C suspension into its flagship Song lineup.

Comes with 4,840 mm fastback sleek body, 2,930 mm wheelbase, and aerodynamic 0.255 Cd drag coefficient, the Song L GT raises the performance bar with three electric powertrain choices, topped by a 390 kW (523 – 530 hp) dual-motor AWD setup combining 160 kW front and 230 kW rear motors.

Hidden door handles, an active rear spoiler, and aggressive styling complete its premium sporty character. BYD hopes the GT’s cutting-edge technology, including 10% to 97% charging in just 9 minutes will revive interest. Expected to cost 250,000 to 280,000 RMB that targets premium electric crossover rivals with high performance and advanced tech features.

Reason Behind BYD’s Delay & Launch Update

Well, the long wait turn out to be far more than a delayed product launch. Instead of introducing the Song L GT immediately after its July 2025 regulatory debut, BYD reportedly chose to hold the model back until its latest technologies were production-ready. This look very similar to the recently revealed BYD Seal 08 Flagship and BYD FCB Tai 9 Flagship SUV.

That strategy allows the GT to arrive with a significantly stronger package than originally planned, positioning it as a technology flagship rather than simply a sportier version of the Song L EV. It also reflects BYD’s focus on keeping pace with China’s rapidly evolving electric vehicle market.

Blade Battery 2.0 & Flash Charging

The most important upgrade lies beneath the bodywork. The Song L GT expected to debut with Blade Battery 2.0, BYD’s newest battery technology design to improve charging speed, efficiency, and long-term durability. But the official battery capacity and CLTC driving range are still under wraps.

BYD’s new Flash Charging system is capable of replenishing the battery from 10% to 97% in around nine minutes under compatible ultra-fast charging conditions. If confirm, it will place the GT among the fastest-charging mainstream electric crossovers currently available in China.

BYD’s Smartest Driving Tech with DiPilot 5.0

Not just battery and charging technology, the Song L GT also introduces a major leap in intelligent driving. The new DiPilot 5.0 system works alongside a roof-mounted LiDAR, high-definition cameras, radar modules, and ultrasonic sensors to create a more advanced driver-assistance package. And the steering look similar as of the BYD Denza Z Uncovers its Internal Steering Architecture.

The system expected to support adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assistance, automatic emergency braking, intelligent parking, driver monitoring, and smarter highway assistance. Together, these technologies design to improve convenience, safety, and confidence during everyday driving.

GT Power Performance & Range

The GT badge finally lives upto its name with three electric powertrain options. Buyers can choose 170 kW (228 hp) and 230 kW (308 hp) rear-wheel-drive variants. The flagship model combines a 160 kW front induction motor and a 230 kW rear permanent-magnet synchronous motor.

These motors help to produce a combined 390 kW (523 – 530 hp) through an intelligent AWD system. And depending on the variants, the Song L GT likely to offer driving range of upto around 650 – 700 km (CLTC) that combines strong performance with long-distance usability.

Sportier Exterior Design

Rather than redesigning the entire vehicle, BYD sharpen the Song L GT’s existing fastback crossover styling with performance-inspired details. The front fascia gains a more aggressive bumper and larger air intakes while ultra-slim LED headlamps remain connected by the brand’s signature Dragon Whisker chrome trim.

BYD Song L GT Electric Fastback Crossover Exterior Design

Other outlook features like Flush door handles, blacked-out pillars, a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, and an active rear spoiler reinforce the GT’s premium appearance. Combined with the sleek roofline and 0.255 Cd drag coefficient, the design balances visual drama with aerodynamic efficiency.

When come to dimension and practicality with exterior design then the coupe-inspired silhouette grabs attention, the Song L GT doesn’t compromise on practicality. The model comes as 4,840 mm long, 1,950 mm wide, and 1,560 mm tall with a generous 2,930 mm wheelbase.

All this offers a spacious footprint for passengers and luggage. The 2,380 kg curb weight reflects its large battery pack and dual-motor hardware while the wide stance enhances stability and gives the crossover a premium road presence.

Premium Cabin with Modern Luxury

The Song L GT likely to retain the premium cabin layout of the Song L EV with GT-exclusive touches. A spacious five-seat configuration, sport-inspired front seats, soft-touch materials, premium upholstery, ambient lighting, and minimalist dashboard is also expected. The long wheelbase may also provide generous rear legroom and comfortable cabin suited for both daily commuting and long-distance touring.

Smart Tech, DiSus-C Suspension, & Safety Package

YD Song L GT likely to feature BYD’s latest connected cockpit with a large floating infotainment touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, wireless smartphone connectivity, voice control, over-the-air software updates, wireless charging, and connected vehicle services.

The crossover will also introduce DiPilot 5.0 with a roof-mounted LiDAR, delivering more advanced intelligent driving, and a smarter overall ownership experience. Not just technology, the Song L GT expected to combine comfort with confidence through BYD’s DiSus-C adaptive suspension which continuously adjusts damping for better ride quality and handling.

Safety likely to add adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, electronic stability control, multiple airbags, a 360-degree surround-view camera, and intelligent parking assistance.

Most Likely Price & Rivals

Well, the BYD Song L GT expected to be priced between 250,000 and 280,000 RMB in China which translates to approx ₹29.8 to ₹33.4 lakh in India and around $34,800 to $39,000 in USA. With this pricing and features, rivals include the Tesla Model Y Performance, Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700 4×4 SUV Reveal, Zeekr 7X, Xpeng G7, Avatr 07L EV and Onvo L60.

BYD Song L GT coming with fresh styling, it carries the responsibility of reviving the Song L nameplate after sharp sales decline. Every major upgrade, from its new battery technology to smarter driving systems and flagship performance clears that BYD taken its time for the right reasons. And if the final production model comes as listed above, the Song L GT may redefine the performance EV segment and stand among China’s most significant automotive launches of 2026.
